Windows Cannot Format This Drive : Solution [TRP]

ADVERTISEMENTS

Today, when I plugged my flash drive and tried to format it, I got an error saying “Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no Windows is displaying the contents of the drive.”

Have a look :

windows cannot format this drive xp

I tried other formatting tools but got the same error again and again. So here is a simple solution to format any drive if you get this error.

1. First download and install a freeware called Unlocker. Click here to visit the download link.

2. Now after installing this tool, right click on the drive that you want to format and click on Unlocker.

right click

3. When unlocker will open, select Unlock All.

4. Now after unlocking the drive, now you can easily format the drive without any error.

This method is 100% working and tried by me. If you are facing any problem or still getting the same error, recheck the steps above or write a comment below.

It’s ironic how there is an app for everything. A google search and you can usually find something to fix your issue.

That blue screen is called as BSOD(Blue Screen Of Death) that comes due to virus attack or illegal registry entry. Do one thing, download and install any registry fixer and make a full scan and this will solve your problem of BSOD.

Same problem happened with my FlashDrive as well. I already have Unlocker and it did not work. I just went to ‘MyComputer’ – Manage – Diskmanagement – and from there formatted my FlashDrive. It worked like a charm.
