ADVERTISEMENTS
Today, I got an email and was asked what is the difference between an author and a contributor. Considering this request I thought to write in brief about Types Of Users and what these users can actually do. The question was asked in context to Wordpress, so I’ll answer it according to that.
Types Of Users
Admin
It is a short name for Administrator that has access to all the features that Wordpress has.
Editor
An Editor does not hold all the rights that an Admin has but can perform few tasks. An Editor can :
- Publish Posts
- Edit his/her and others posts
- Manage Posts
- Update Posts
Author
An Author has limited right and you can say that it stands lower than Editor. An Author can only edit and publish his/her own posts.
Contributor
A Contributor is a user that is same as an Author but the difference is that it cannot publish its posts. A Contributor can only write posts. The post is first reviewed by Editor or Admin and then gets published.
Subscriber
At last, a Subscriber is only a Read Only User, means a subscriber can only read posts and comment on them. He has not privilege to write any article.
I hope you are clear with the above mentioned terminologies.
