How To Transfer Your Domain From One Domain Registrar To Another

Few months back I wrote an article on DevilsWorkshop on Some Tips To Follow Before Buying A Domain Name, there I mentioned that do not let your hosting company hold your domain name as if by chance your hosting company bans your account, you will loose your domain also. Ttoday I got an email from one of our reader Rohit Manhas asking “I also want to transfer my domain, please tell a reliable domain company and the complete process to transfer it”. In this tutorial I am going to tell you how to transfer your domain. Lets start :

Before starting this tutorial I would like to tell you that I recommend you to go for NameCheap domain registrar because of the following reasons :

• Its cheap as compared to other domain companies.
• It provides free E-mail/URL Forwarding
• It also provides free WhoIsGuard
• You do not need verified Paypal account for transferring funds

Now coming to the tutorial, I believe that you have registered an account on NameCheap, if not then make an account now.

Step1. After registering account, at the top click on Live Support and ask then about Promo Code. Though the promo code for this month is WINERWIND but will last only for the month on January, so its better to ask them or Google for the promo code. Save the promo code as we will need it later.

Step2. Now, at the top navigation menu, under Transfer your Domain select Transfer Your Domains to NameCheap

Step3. Now, in the text box enter your domain name that you want to transfer. Please note, do not type WWW or HTTP:// before the domain name. Have a look :

Step4. When you will click on Next, it will tell you if the domain is transferable or not. If yes, then click on Add to Cart and move further.

Step5. Now, it will show you the cost of transferin the domain, in the left hand side enter the Promo Code you got in Step1 and click on Standard Checkout.

Step6. Note down the price of transferin the domain and click here to add funds to your NameCheap account. You can use Paypal or Credit Card to add funds.

Step7. As you will click on Standard Checkout, they will ask you whether you want to enable WhoIsGuard not. Select your option and click on Continue Checkout

Step8. As you have funds in your account, so now its time to pay them.

Step9. After paying them, go to your earlier domain Hosting Cpanel and under Domains look for Domain Transfer or Reg. Transfer or something similar to it

• If you are on Dreamhost then you can get the EPP code under Domains > Reg. Transfer. In their system the EPP code is called Auth Code
• If you are on Hostgator then you can get the EPP code by sending a request to sales@hostgator.com

Step10. Finally, after getting the EPP code at the top right corner click on My Account > Manage Transfers and fill in the EPP code and within 6-12 hrs the domain will get transferred.
