Igfxpers.exe Function

We already know that it is a graphics utility program installed alongside the Nvidia powered Cards but the main functionality of this card is not limited to the aforesaid implementation. Say for example we have one system connected to two monitors – a 24″ LCD Screen and an orthodox 17 ” old CRT monitor. Now the system by default recognizes the 800 x 600 display.  Hence it is unable to determine which monitor can run high screen resolution and which one can run under lower resolution.

This is where igfxpers.exe comes into importance. When we connect more than one device to our system, it explicitly remembers the default resolution set by us for different display devices.

Igfxpers Startup

It is attached to the startup items list and is automatically loaded each time the computer starts. Since it maintains the screen resolution for monitors it should not be removed from startup under such conditions. Whereas if you are using a single monitor this can be removed from the startup if you find it creating any problems or errors.

Is Igfxpers.exe a persistence module?

Igfxpers.exe is a persistence module program. By default it is hooked to the startup process of the windows startup console and is a standard System hidden file by default.

No, it is definitely not a virus, but it should not be present anywhere except the default location. If your antivirus is showing you warning messages and the location showing there is other then the default path, you should run a complete system scan as this might be a virus faking its original name to spread the infection.
